Joseph R. Burns

Burns, Joseph R., a lifetime resident of Weymouth, died May 6, 2014 at the age of 82.

Joe grew up in Weymouth and was a member of the High School National Championship teams in the late 1940’s. After  graduating from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, he worked as a pharmacist for Thayer Pharmacy in Braintree Highlands, the Long Island Hospital and Mattapan Chronic Hospital, from where he retired. He was a lifetime member of the Weymouth Elks. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and furniture building and traveling with his family throughout the country in their motor home.

Beloved husband of B. JoAnn (Grenier) Burns. Loving father of Donna Cady and husband Matthew, Diane Burns, all of Weymouth, Joseph R. Burns, Jr. of Plymouth, Jeffrey Burns and wife Marcia of Braintree, and JoAnn Oliveira and husband John of Stoughton. Cherished “Papa” of Michelle Chartier, Andrea Howe, Jeffrey Burns, Jr., Max Burns, Ryan Burns, Taylor Burns, Kayla Oliveira, Kamryn Oliveira, and great grandchildren Lila Rose Chartier, Braeden Chartier and Nicholas Howe. Loving brother of the late Margaret Eaton. Uncle of Robert Orenstein and Ann LaVangie. Lifelong friend of Richard McLellan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Square).  Funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM in the Pilgrim Congregational Church, 24 Athens St. No. Weymouth. Burial in Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
