Mr. Joseph R., Barbiere, 89, of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on December 8th at his home, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his wife Mary, daughter Denise and son-in-law Jon, following a period of declining health.

Joe was born and educated in Weymouth, where he was a life long resident. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during WW 2 and was a member of the DAV Post # 65. Joe also served as a Weymouth Police Officer for many years and then worked as an electrician for the Weymouth Public School Department until his retirement in 1984.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Mary M. (Grant) Barbiere. Father of  Denise DeTommaso and her husband, Jon, of Weymouth, and Dawn Marie Norian and her husband, Fred, of Bridgewater. Brother of the late Lois James and Patricia Januszkiewicz. Brother in law of George Dunlap of Scituate, Johnny Dunlap of Maine, Henry Dunlap of Florida, Elizabeth Dwyer, Viola Holbert, and Caroline Morris, all of Scituate, and Richard Januszkiewicz of Gardner. Also survived by 2 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street). Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 AM in funeral home.

Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370.
