Joseph Paul Feeney, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 1, 2019. He was 86.
Born in Boston, he was raised in South Boston and was the son of the late Bernard and Sarah (O’Donnell) Feeney. Joseph attended local schools and graduated from the South Boston High School with the Class of 1950. After high school, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country in the Korean War on the USS Compton. He was honorably discharged on January 13, 1955. Following his honorable discharge, he continued his education at Boston University.
Joseph was a real estate appraiser for the United States Government. He specialized in large commercial property and enjoyed his work. Joseph retired from the government in 1983 and continued to work in the field with smaller companies. He happily retired in 1993.
In his spare time, Joseph loved to garden. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing plants, flowers and vegetables. A handy man, Joseph was able to work with his hands and work on home improvement projects. Joseph loved to read and would often be found at home with a book in his hands. He was famous for completing the New York Times crossword puzzle in an hour. He enjoyed playing cards with the his longtime childhood friends and cribbage with his wife and family. Joseph was a member of the Quincy City Club, the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He had many lasting friendships throughout the years.
Joseph was generous, loving and selfless. His sense of humor and ability to connect with the people he loved is his legacy that continue through his family. He will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Eileen M. (Dearing) Feeney. The two married on November 22, 1958 at Sacred Heart Parish in Quincy. Together they shared 61 loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Eileen F. Bushnell and her husband Tom of New York, Bernadette F. Crawford and her husband David of Cohasset, Joseph W. Feeney of Quincy and William F. Feeney and his wife Cindy of California. Joseph was the loving grandfather of Melissa Crawford of London, David Crawford of Cohasset, Nora Jordan and her husband Aaron of New York, Betsy Crawford of Washington, Jillian Crawford of Boston, Kevin Crawford of Cohasset, Blue and Ruby Feeney, both of California, and the loving great grandfather of Emery Jordan of New York. Joseph is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his ten siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, September 8th 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9 AM on Monday, September 9th prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM.
Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joseph’s name may be sent to the Quincy Council on Aging, 440 E. Squantum St., Quincy, MA 02171.
