Joseph P. Joyce

Joyce, Joseph P. of North Quincy, formerly of South Boston, September 11, 2008. Beloved husband of Katherine (Greene) Joyce. Loving father of Beverly & husband Mark Marandett of Derry, NH, Robert Joyce & wife Jena (Kirsch) of LaJolla, CA, Ann & husband Haress Ansary of Centennial, CO, and the late Thomas Stephen Joyce & his wife Stasia. Brother of Mary Rita Joyce of West Groton and Winifred Pescosolido of Newton. Loving grandfather of Kerry Kiley of Derry, NH, Kelsey Johnson, Nora Joyce, both of LaJolla, CA, Kristen O’Hara of Milton, Leyla Ansary and Zyed Ansary, both of Centennial, CO. Great grandfather of Brooke Johnson, Patrick O’Hara, and Reade O’Hara. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mr. Joyce worked as a master cabinet maker for Kaplan Furniture and then UMass, Boston, retiring in 1985. While at Kaplan, he crafted a desk that was commisioned for the White House. At UMass, he created specialized lab equipment and was responsible for much of the wordwork in the President’s office. Many fine examples of his furniture making are currently enjoyed by members of his family. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with family. While serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII, he was a crew chief for the P-51 Mustang fighter planes. He will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Life Celebration Service in Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY, Monday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, N. Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Sunday 2-6 PM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations in memory of Mr. Joyce may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
