Driscoll, Joseph P., a lifelong resident of Quincy, passed away December 31, 2009. Husband of the late Shirley (McClelland) Driscoll. Loving father of Joseph Driscoll and Cornelius Driscoll & his wife Gail, all of Quincy. “Grandpa Joe” to Alexander O., Patrick C., and Laura E. Driscoll. Brother of the late Fr. John, Francis, William, Mary McCarron, Rita Toomey, and Kaye Driscoll. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Joseph graduated in 1939 from North Quincy High School, where he was captain of the basketball and baseball teams. In 1938, he was the first batter at Adams Field in Quincy in a game between Quincy and North Quincy High Schools. Later, he was inducted into the North Quincy High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Accepted into Harvard University, Joseph had to leave school to help support his family. He volunteered for World War II, serving in the Army Air Corp as a radio operator, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Central America at the Panama Canal. Joseph was active in Quincy youth activities including coaching Quincy Youth Baseball and Babe Ruth League. He was also Past President of the Holy Name Society of Most Blessed Sacrament Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 5-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph may be made to the American Cancer Society, 25 Stuart St., 4th Floor, Boston, MA 02126.
