Desmond, Joseph L. of Quincy July 27, 2003. Beloved husband of 55 years to Eleanor M. (Connolly) Desmond. Loving father of Daniel J. of Chatham, Kathleen S. Halpin of Wollaston, Patricia A. Hennessy of Hough’s Neck, Richard J. of Randolph, John F. of Quincy, Maureen J. Cronin of Manchester, NH, Nancy M. Eastman of Marshfield and Paul M. of Quincy. Brother of John D. Desmond of CA, Sister Mary Sheila, S.C. of Wellesley, William of IL and the late James & Mary Desmond. Also survived by 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON Friday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10 AM. Visiting hours Wednesday and Thursday 4-8 PM. Burial in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Married at St. Leo’s Parish, Dorchester 55 years ago, he was also head of the Holy Name Society there. During WWII, Mr. Desmond served as a Sgt. in the Army Air Corps. Later, he worked as a general manager for Allis Chalmers in Hyde Park for 28 years. After that he worked as plant manager for the Jordan Marsh Warehouse in Squantum for 18 years and then as property manager for Harborside Condominiums in Marina Bay. He was one of the founding fathers of Quincy Youth Football and was a franchise owner / treasurer of the North Quincy Apaches for over 40 years. He was also general manager of the Quincy Granite Football Team. An active parishioner of St. Ann’s Church in Wollaston, he founded the St. Ann’s School Basketball League, he started and ran the school Bingo program for many years and he served as an usher at church. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the community. Donations in memory of Mr. Desmond may be made to the Patricia A.
