Schlager, Joseph “Jim” of Milton, formerly of Quincy, owner of Schlager Auto Body & Towing September 6, 2006. The beloved husband of the late Doris B. (Bushman). Father of James Schlager and his wife Marcia of Quincy. Brother of Richard Schlager of FL. and the late Lena Garcello, Anna LePine, Eddie & John Schlager. Devoted Grandfather of James F. Schlager and his wife Deborah and Thomas J. Schlager all of Quincy. Great Grandfather of Brielle Mary Schlager. Dear Friend of Florence Gard of FL. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Saturday at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Mary’s Church, Quincy at 11:30 AM. Visiting hours Friday 2- 4 & 7- 9 PM. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of Mr. Schlager may be made to Quincy Public Schools c/o Dr. Richard DeCristofaro, 70 Coddington St. Quincy, MA 02169.W.W.II Navy veteran. Joseph “Jim ” F. Schlager founder and owner of the Schlager Auto Body and towing business died on Wednesday Sept. 6, 2006 in Quincy Medical Center. Jim was born in Quincy on Willard St. in 1920. He met his late wife Doris B. (Bushman) when he was 6 years old. Jim would walk from his home in West Quincy to work on a relatives pig farm that was located on the site of the Howard Johnson Motel in Braintree. His family remembers how he would tell them stories about the younger days when they would ride their bicycles and do alot of horseback riding which they both enjoyed. They married in 1942. Together they opened Schlager Auto Body & Towing in Quincy in 1956, celebrating their 50th year in business. Mr. Schlager was fond of beagles, he raised them and also took them to fox hunts in Maine & New Hampshire. His passion was horses, along with his late wife, they entered quarter horses in several shows. They would go on 35 mile horseback rides in the Blue Hills and would also ride with the Hanson Riding Club in Plymouth. He love to hunt and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a true woodsman . Mr. Schlager served in the United States Navy from May 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He received a Presidential Unit Citation along with a W.W.II Victory Medal, 2 star Asiatic – Pacific Theatre medals. Mr. Schlager took care of his late wife Doris for many years after she was diagnosed with MS. He was such a devoted and dedicated loyal man to her, he adored her and was a wonderful example to his family. He was a hardworking loyal man who was so proud of his son and grandchildren.
