Gill, Joseph J. of North Quincy, formerly South Boston, died peacefully February 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph attended South Boston High School and graduated with the class of 1949. His most cherished memories were being Captain of the South Boston High School football team, as running back for the Chippewa’s Semi-Pro Football League and proud member of the Barn Boys and Castle Island Association. Joe was inducted into the South Boston Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving as an Army Medic. Joe loved spending time at his second home in Maine that he built with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. He was a strong Irishman with an incredible sense of humor and loving smile. Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of 60 years to Lauretta (Messina) Gill of Quincy. Cherished father of Andrew M. Gill and his wife Laurel of Huntington Beach, CA, Joseph M. Gill and his wife Karine of Sarasota, FL, Lauretta B. Grant and her husband Timothy of Marshfield, and Michael J. Gill and his wife Ann Marie of Raynham. Adoring grandfather of Samantha J. Gill, Delia Grant, Lauretta K. Grant, Breidi Gill, Joseph Gill, and Laura Ann Gill. Brother of the late Mary Thomas, Katie Gill, Nora Gill, and Andrew Gill. Also survived by his beloved niece Donise, loving brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 11 AM. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joe may be made to Camp Wing Scholarship Fund for under privileged city children, c/o Crossroads, Attn: Alex, 119 Myrtle St., Duxbury, MA 02332.
