Joseph J. Galasso

GALASSO, Joseph J. 85, of Milton and formerly of Quincy, died Wednesday June 6, 2018.  Son of the late Angelo and Florence (Connolly).  Beloved husband of the late Helen E. (Hurley).  Devoted father of  Paul Galasso and his wife Regina of NH, Pamela Galasso of Washington DC, Joan Walsh and her husband Bill of Milton, Kim Adams and her husband Gil of Medfield, and Carol Hooks and her husband David of PA.  Loving grandfather of Peter Jude Galasso; Joseph, William, and Kathleen Walsh; Gil, Paul, Dean, Meryl, and Ben Adams; and Colleen (Page), Kristina, N. and Quinn Junco.  Brother of the late John Galasso.

Joe attended Charlestown High School, and served in the United States Air Force.  He was a truck driver for many years for Yellow Freight and The Boston Globe.  Joe and Helen were longtime residents of North Quincy, and members of the Sacred Heart Church community.

Joe was patient, kind, and always willing to help others.  He dedicated his life to his family and adored his 13 grandchildren.

A quiet man, keeping to himself about himself, he was surprisingly possessed of a keen sense of humor, ready to subtly interject hilarity into any situation, yet never at anyone else’s expense.

A great chef, rarely seen without a spatula on weekends, he regularly served up breakfast and Sunday dinner.  Most memorable though, and most cherished now, were the family nights of making pizza, bread, and his legacy lasagna and tomato sauce.

Along with his Boston Scally cap, Joe’s sense of style was a point of pride.  He enjoyed bright colors, khaki pants, and polished wingtips – in hindsight making sense to his children of all the nights he spent polishing their shoes for school.

We are grateful for the unique relationships he shared with his children and grandchildren.  Dad / Grampa will be greatly missed.

Private services have been held.  Arrangements by Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joseph may be made to DEAF, Inc. Development Office, 215 Brighton Ave. Allston, MA 02134.
