Joseph G. Rhatigan

Mr. Joseph G. Rhatigan died suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Hingham on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.  He was 67 years old.

Joe was born in Boston, the second of three boys of the late Michael A. and Anne K. (Hennigan) Rhatigan. He grew up in Dorchester, Brighton and Waltham, and had many fond memories of the extended-family vacations to Nantasket Beach and Paragon Park in Hull.

Joe was educated at St. Patrick’s and BC High; he earned a BS in Accounting from Bentley University (1978) and an MBA from Suffolk University (1990).

His first job was as a caddie at Chestnut Hill Country Club when he was nine years old; Joe became the Assistant Pro there before deciding to forego PGA Q-School for college.  He began his career in general accounting and management at Standard Thomson Division (Waltham) and Joseph Pollak Division (Dorchester), and then traveled extensively throughout Europe and Australia as an Internal Auditor with their Corporate parent, Allegheny International, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.  He continued to take on more management and strategic responsibility at Boston Metal Products (Medford), KH America (Holliston), culminating as a VP of Operations & Finance at Commonwealth Wine & Spirits (Mansfield) and later as CFO/Partner at Yankee Spirits (Sturbridge). Joe loved being the Captain of his Catalina-28 sailboat ‘Wayfarer’, though after they’d bought the house, the ‘crew’ mutinied in favor of the pool in the backyard.

The loving husband of Patricia A. Coyle in Hingham, he is also survived by brothers Michael J.  Rhatigan and his wife Kathy of Florida, and John M. Rhatigan and his wife Elaine (Callahan) of Hudson.  Also Aunt Nellie (Hennigan) Beatty of Watertown, with cousins John Beatty (Norine) of Watertown, James Beatty (Joanne) of Hyannis, the late Ellen Beatty Corfield (Rick) of Framingham, James McDonough (Sheila) of New Hampshire and Thomas McDonough of Charlestown; and loving nieces and nephews – and a new great-niece – here, and family in Ireland.
