Joseph Filardi, 53, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on January 27 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe was born in New York City to parents Joseph J. and the late Hannah Marie Filardi, (née Lyons). He graduated from Manhasset High School and Marist College, earning a degree in Communications and went on to receive his Master’s Degree from Suffolk University. Joe had an accomplished career with the Department of Revenue for the past 22 years, and was well-loved by many of his co-workers who later became friends.
Joe leaves behind his adoring and devoted wife Kristen of 25 years and his loving daughter Mia. Mia was the center of his existence and his greatest joy was spending time with her. Family was everything to Joe, and his happiest moments were spent taking in a tennis match with his daughter, or watching a baseball game with his dad.
Joe was kind, caring, and his quick wit kept people laughing around him even through the toughest of times. He never wanted his battle with cancer to define him, and his strength and courage throughout his journey was truly inspiring.
Joe is also survived by his loving father Joseph J. Filardi of Manhasset, New York; his beloved sisters Therese Filardi of Chatham, and Suzanne Sternberg and brother-in-law Allan Sternberg of Plainview, New York; his loving in-laws Richard and Nancy Wilson of Scituate, Nancy and David Palubicki, Tara and Gary Lumnah, Kevin and Marianne Wilson, all of Scituate, Richard and Celia Wilson of Paris, Cheryl and Rick Jakubowski of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews whom he adored and entertained with his signature sense of humor. Joe is also survived by a treasured extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a wealth of friends who will truly miss him.
Joe’s family is grateful for the excellent care he received from Dr. Jeffrey Clark and his amazing team at Mass General Hospital, Boston, as well as Meridian Medical in New York City.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Thursday, February 3, 2022, 4-8 PM at the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street, Hingham. Joe’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 4, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Paul Church, 147 North Street, Hingham.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the 529 Educational Plan established for Joe’s daughter in his memory.
