Quirk, Jr. and his wife Elaine, of NH, William S. Quirk of Hingham, Thomas S. Quirk and his wife Erica S. of Hingham, and Edward M. Quirk of Marshfield. Cherished grandfather of Jennifer E. and Kayla Lee Quirk of Hingham and Corey J. and Angela N. Quirk of Marshfield. Loving brother of the late Thomas H. Quirk and uncle to Susan, Thomas, Allison and Timothy. For Joseph, his family was the most important part of his life. He loved the ocean, especially sailing, boating, and his time in the U.S. Navy. He was also a veteran of two wars, serving in both WWII and Korea. Joseph was a founding member of the National Asbestos Foundation, a group formed to create awareness of the workplace hazard. In his early 50’s he attended the Harvard School of Public Health and became a health inspector in both Somerville, and Boston and later the Director of Public Health in Hull, a position he retired from in 1978. Joseph was an industrious man who owned, managed, and maintained several properties. He enjoyed his home in Melbourne Beach, FL for the past twenty years. He was the member of many organizations; including the DAV, VFW, American Legion, Navy League, Elks, Hull Lions Club, and several others. He will be missed for his sense of humor, his strength, and personal convictions. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Visiting Hours on Tuesday from 5-8 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Paul’s Church, Hingham at 10 AM. There will not be a gathering at the funeral home prior to Mass.
