It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Joe on November 13, 2022. Joe was born on October 16, 1926 in Dorchester to Vincent C. “Charlie” and Mary B. (Caristi) Lo Sciuto. Formerly of South Weymouth for 60 years, he was the beloved husband of the late Jean K. McCabe, his best friend and the love of his life, to whom he was married for 62 years. Devoted and proud father of Susan J. Dempsey and her husband Jack of Kingston; Robert J. LoSciuto, now of Palm Coast FL, with whom Dad lived his later years in Hingham; Stephen V. LoSciuto and his wife Suzanne of Duxbury; Paul R. LoSciuto and his wife Ruth of Rockland; and David M. LoSciuto of Quincy. He was the proud Papa of Michael S. LoSciuto and his wife Kristi of Kingston; Kaitlin S. Brady and her husband Daniel of Halifax; Matthew J. LoSciuto of Quincy; and Juliann T. LoSciuto and her companion Robert Jones of East Bridgewater. He was Pa to four great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Aubrey LoSciuto of Kingston, and Leah and Stephen Brady of Halifax, who were sources of great joy for him.
After graduating from the Mather School and Boston English High, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, during World War II. He served as a Sgt. in the Air Corps on the Marshall, Mariana, and Guam Islands in the Pacific. Once home, Joe was employed for a couple of years with the Veterans Administration in Boston, where he met Jean. He then spent 35 years as a letter carrier and parcel post driver for the U.S. Postal Service, mainly out of the Quincy Post Office. Soon after retiring in 1984, he became a van driver for the Norwell Council on Aging. He very much enjoyed driving his friends there 2-3 days a week for 20 years. Joe was a lifetime member of both the American Legion and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was an avid Boston sports fan, especially supporting the Patriots and the Bruins. His hobbies included woodworking, traveling throughout the 6 New England states, Canada, and Florida, while enjoying many restaurants along the way with Jean. Most of all, his greatest joy and pleasure was being surrounded b his extended family during the holidays, birthdays, and special events, as well as poolside during the summer for cookout celebrations. We would like to give special thanks to our brother Bob, who generously opened his home to Dad for 10 years, as well as to our sister-in-law Ruthann, who kindly oversaw many of Dad’s medical needs and accompanied him to all of his appointments. We would be remiss if we did not share our gratitude to Lori, Stacey, Robin, Jen, Cheryl, Michelle, Sandy and all the support staff in the Buttonwood Unit of Southwood at Norwell Nursing Center for all the wonderful care, attention, and love they gave to Dad in his final 21 months. We will all miss him dearly.
According to Joe’s wishes, funeral services provided by the McDonald-Keohane Funeral Home in South Weymouth will be private. Friends may still offer their support by visiting www.Keohane.com and share a special message or memory. Burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 381-5, or online at www.stjude.org.
