Jordie Saucerman

Jordie Saucerman grew up in Rockport, a small town in Southern Indiana. Her mom Vivian, was a wonderful storyteller and cook and her dad Dick, owned the town’s Dime Store. She and her younger sister, Alicia grew up with the banks of the Ohio River as their playground and always had cats in their household. Jordie began performing in her local church and school at age 7. Jordie always said she had the perfect childhood, and she wanted to impart that joy of discovery and fun with the countless kids with whom she came in contact.

Jordie met Zoe in 1974 when Zoe was a filmmaking student at Kansas City Art Institute. They discovered how much they enjoyed working together, and decided to embark on the decision of a lifetime and move to Boston. Arriving with little resources, they worked at area summer camps in the film/media department and cleaned houses. They eventually formed a theatre when kids they had worked with showed up on their Hough’s Neck cottage doorstep and begged them to start their own theater.

A production of Dracula set the stage for meeting Sally. Jordie was creating a special effect flight of a bat when the bat accidently bumped Sally’s head. Once Sally completed college, Jordie and she became life partners. Their life together has been one of shared joys and accomplishments, much laughter, and great love.

Jordie was the co-founder of The Academy of the Company Theatre. Through A.C.T. Jordie wanted to impart the best of her enchanted and magical childhood into the life of every child she encountered. Summer Workshop gave Jordie a time to shine! Bullhorn in one hand, Pepsi in the other, Jordie directed the festivities of summer camp as if she worked at Disney! Mardi Gras was her piece de resistance, an all-day party of noise, confetti, costumes and décor celebrating 3 weeks of children’s creative and dedicated projects. Jordie made sure kids could celebrate who they are and accept one another in their uniqueness.

Having grown up with a mother and grandmother who embraced the true meaning of Southern hospitality, Jordie believed everyone in her home must be well fed and taken care of. She loved providing food for the crew and actors. Freeze pops, unlimited candy, homemade chicken soup, mashed potatoes dripping with cream and butter, meatballs, and bacon sandwiches barely begin to cover the generous food servings Jordie gave away. Taking care of her theatre family was a big part of her mission. Jordie knew what people needed to feel loved and cared for.

Jordie was beloved by her peers, staff members, families, and most of all her students. Her incredible generosity, kind heart, sassiness, and sense of humor drew people to Jordie; and she welcomed them in to the theatre family. Her love for her theatre and the realization that The Company Theatre was a safe haven of acceptance and a place that could form and change lives are her lasting legacy. Jordie played a critical role in developing the Company’s mission and bringing our motto of  ‘we are a family’ to life both on and off stage.

A resident of Weymouth since 1987, Jordie made the South Shore her home. Jordie is survived by her beloved spouse Sally Ashton Forrest, life-long friend Zoe Bradford of Hingham, her sister Alicia Cochenour and her husband, Bob, of Lamar, IN. Her sister-in-law Beth McDonough  and her husband Michael of Stoughton. Aunt of Robby, Aaron, and Victoria Cochenour, Elisabeth, Austin, and Charlotte Kunz. Also survived by countless friends, co-workers and extended family.
