John W. Locke

 John W. “Jack” Locke, of Braintree, a retired electrical engineer and U. S. Army veteran, died at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on July 28, 2016. He was 82.

Born in Boston, Jack was raised in the city’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood where he attended the Mary E. Curley School before moving on to Boston Trade High School. Following his service in the Army during the Korean War, he completed his education while working fulltime and earned a bachelors degree in engineering from Northeastern University. He used his degree in his work as an electrical engineer with Stevens-Arnold Co. in South Boston.

Jack enjoyed his family, summers in Plymouth and winters in Florida. He particularly enjoyed his time with his granddaughter, Neeve especially attending Red Sox games. A loyal Boston sports fan, he also remained loyal to his fellow veterans as Past Commander of the VFW Post 722 in Jamaica Plain.

He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Sullivan) Locke, the loving father of Mary Kate Prendergast and her husband Michael of Marshfield and John W. “Johnny” Locke, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Plymouth and the cherished “Papa” to Neeve Prendergast. Jack is survived by his siblings, Leo Locke and his wife Rosalie of FL, Maureen Martin and her husband John of Walpole and Jerry Locke of Foxboro. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Leo Locke, his brother Donald and sister Marilyn all late of Dedham. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday, August 1 from 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:45 AM on Tuesday, August 2 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Thomas More Church, Braintree at 9:30 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. 

 Donations in Jack’s memory may be made to New England Chapter, Paralyzed Veterans of America 1600 Providence Highway Ste.143 Walpole, MA 02081.
