Hemphill, John W. of Hyannis, formerly of Quincy, VT & Alaska, August 17, 2005. The Beloved Son of John E. and Ellen (Guilfoy) Hemphill of Hyannis. Brother of Ellen “Penny” Savage and her husband Richard of Marshfield, Marilyn “Mandy” Chandler and her husband Scott of North Eastham, Paul Hemphill and his wife Marianne of Marshfield, Mark Hemphill and his wife Donna of Cumberland, RI, Peter Hemphill and his wife Theresa of Wareham, Matthew Hemphill and his wife Clare of Essex, VT. and Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Selinger and her husband Jeff of Sodotna, AK. God Father of Lindsay & Jessica Hemphill. John is also survived by many nieces & nephews. Uncle of the late Sarah Rose Hemphill. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Visiting hours Friday 4-8PM. Burial will be private. John was born in Boston and raised in Quincy, he attended Quincy Schools and graduated from North Quincy High School Class of 1969. He was the captain of the Football team at NQ HS- He then went on to College attending University of Vermont and was captain of their football team. After college he lived in Burlington, VT for 11 years he worked as a self- employed carpenter. He moved back to Quincy for a brief time before moving to Fairbanks, Alaska where he stayed for 10 years. He came back to this area about 5 years ago when he was diagnosed with cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon Street Brookline, MA 02446-9918.
