John Silvia of Quincy, formerly of North Reading and Taunton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. He was 87.
He was born to John Silvia, Jr. and Hilda (Oliveira) and raised in Taunton. After graduating from Taunton High School, he earned his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University. He worked with GE and then went on to have a long, distinguished career with Raytheon as a Liaison Manager.
In his free time, John could be seen cheering on his children and later his grandchildren at sporting events. He founded the North Reading Youth Basketball League and established Boy Scout Troop 750 in North Reading. He was also very active at St. Theresa’s Church and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. John always had a project to work on, whether it be in the house or the garden. One of his many favorite pastimes was traveling in a converted school bus with his family. He was a hard worker, enjoyed camping, tennis and traveling cross country. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Beloved husband of 67 years to Lorraine (Pinheiro) Silvia of Quincy. Devoted father to Edward Silvia and his wife Cheryl, Elizabeth Cyphers and her husband Michael, Peter Silvia and his wife Christine, Kathleen Silvia, David Silvia and his fiancé Kathleen, Carol Weisse and her husband Steven, Thomas Silvia, Diane Foley and her husband Paul, and Michael Silvia and his wife Susan. Loving grandfather of 21 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 2.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
