On November 30th, John “Jack” S. Llewellyn, Jr. of Topsfield, MA, formerly of Hingham, died the way he lived, surrounded by his loving family.
Jack leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Mary Martha Llewellyn. He also leaves behind his children, Missy Llewellyn and Nicholas White, John and Dawn Llewellyn, Robert and Christine Llewellyn, James and Jessica Llewellyn, and Timothy and Ellen McNamara Llewellyn and nine grandchildren, Kelsey, Pippa, Jack, Mary, Ned, Tim, Polly, Patrick and Maggie.
Jack was born in Amsterdam, NY to Dorothea and John, in January of 1935. He graduated from The College of the Holy Cross in 1956, served in the United States Marine Corps as an Artillery Captain, and earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1961. Jack was the President and CEO of Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. for fifteen years, retiring in 1996. He found real meaning in his work, and was particularly proud to have served a cooperative of family farmers. He was a member of several Boards of Directors including the Dean Foods Company, the Massachusetts Environmental Trust, a Trustee at St. Sebastian’s Country Day School in Needham, and Derby Academy in Hingham. After his retirement he became a volunteer counselor at the Service Corps of Retired Executives. Jack’s proudest accomplishment was his family, and he cherished the formal and informal gatherings over the years. His warm, generous personality created a welcoming environment where there was always an open seat at the kitchen table. Jack was happiest when busy. He loved to cook, travel with the family, and getting involved in projects around the house.
