John S. “Jack” Hacunda

Hacunda, John S. “Jack”, Sr., 93, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2021 in Quincy after a brief illness unrelated to Covid.  He was a proud World War II veteran.

Born in Roxbury to Christina (Fitzgerald) and Joseph Hacunda in 1927, Jack is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Hanley) Hacunda, daughter Christine (age 21 months), brother Joseph Hacunda, sisters Margaret Mearn and Geraldine Berberian.  He is survived by his loving Hacunda family:  sons John, Jr. (Ellen), Peter (Teresa), Robert (Rosemarie) and James (Fran), grandchildren Christopher and Caroline; Michelle, Matthew and Melissa; and Joshua and Jonathan.  He also leaves sister Claire Feehan and brother George (Barbara) Hacunda, dear sister-in-law Margie Hacunda, and several nieces and nephews.  He will also be fondly remembered by many friends and business associates.

Jack grew up in Roxbury, Dorchester and Arlington, and joined the Army in 1945.  He was stationed in Germany, spending three years in Europe.

Returning from his military service, Jack and Margaret married, with Jack a testament to hard work and providing for his family.  He spent many years in the fine printing business, serving as General Manager for the Chadis and Alden Printing companies in Boston after starting his career at Hub Mail.  Jack was excited to contribute his printing expertise to Sail Boston and numerous other City hallmarks.  In his 60s, he left print operations and donned suit and tie, ending his career as a sales manager for Diversified Printing on the South Shore.

With a desire to give back to his community he was a founding member and first President of the Board of Directors for the Manet Community Health Center, established in his Houghs Neck neighborhood in Quincy more than 40 years ago. Since its founding, the Manet Community Health Center has continued to grow to five locations providing access to health care for more than 17,000 patients.

His last months were spent at Hancock Park Skilled Nursing Facility.  Jack’s extended family there provided him with amazing care and good humor under the difficult circumstances of the pandemic.  They touched his life and looked after him when his family could not.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of Christine (Rye Break, NY), the Manet Community Health Center (Quincy), or a veteran’s organization of choice.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Funeral service will be private.  Jack was really looking forward to “a big party when we can all get together again.”  That will happen in August to celebrate his 94th birthday and memory.
