John grew up in Quincy and graduated from Archbishop Williams High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at University of Massachusetts and then a master’s degree at Anna Maria College. He was passionate about sports, especially hockey. He spent his youth in rinks and then raising his sons to play hockey. He volunteered at Quincy Youth Hockey as a coach and later became a coach for the Boston Junior Bruins. He also loved golf and spending time on local courses with his closest friends. His 30-year career with the Quincy Police Department earned him many awards and accolades including the Robert Dana award for going above and beyond the call of duty. John's proudest moments were when his sons Michael and Billy were drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) and when his son, John, became a Quincy Police officer following in his footsteps.
