John R. “Jack” O’Brien

John R. “Jack” O’Brien, of Quincy and formerly of Brookline, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the Milton Hospital. He was 87.

Born in Brookline, he was the son of the late Daniel J. and Helen (Guthrie) O’Brien. Jack graduated from the Brookline High School with the Class of 1949. Following high school, Jack enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Jack was honorably discharged on April 21, 1954. After the service, Jack had a fruitful career in sales with Metropolitan Petroleum. He enjoyed his work and the relationships he built over the years.

In his spare time and retirement, Jack enjoyed traveling with his wife, Evelyn. They enjoyed their trips to Ireland, Canada, Florida and Cape Cod’s P-Town. Jack loved sports and was a Boston sports fan. He most enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends. Jack was a social person with a great personality. He made friends very easily and with his active, spur of the moment personality, people often felt drawn to him and enjoyed his company.

Jack was the beloved husband of Evelyn M. (Goguen) O’Brien. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eileen (Burke) O’Brien. Jack was the loving brother of the late Daniel J. O’Brien, Jr. He was the loving brother-in-law of Marion Gilliland and her husband Len, Roberta Lewis and her husband Freeman, the late Walter Goguen, Elizabeth Leger and her husband Gerald, Christina Lynch and her husband Doug, all of New Brunswick. Jack was the dear friend of the late Gunvor and Lindy Infascelli and the late Dorothy and Sigfried Sommers. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday, May 2nd 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at Friday, May 3rd prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
