John Paul Carlson

John Paul Carlson, “Paul,” 81, of Weymouth died peacefully with his family around him, on March 7, 2022.

He was born on March 14, 1940, to Ernest and Dorothy Carlson of Brockton. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 30, 1958, and served until 1962. He served as a mechanic on the USS Saratoga CVA-60 in Mayport, FL.  In later years he worked as a motor vehicle mechanic at Norwood Dodge.

He married his greatest love, Kathleen Ann O’Brien, of Norwood, on April 20, 1968.  Together they shared 52 beautiful years together and raised two loving children, Paul and Sheila. As a family, they loved camping, boating, fishing, waterskiing, and playing baseball in the yard.

Paul enjoyed hunting with his brother Rob and his nephews, boating at Wessagusset Yacht Club with Kathy, and shooting at Westwood Gun Club with his friends.

Paul was a loving husband and father was always a man who had a great presence in a quiet room. “#1 Papa” was at the top of his list of accomplishments. He was happiest sharing life’s moments with his two grandsons. They were, as he would say, his “best friends.”

Paul is survived by his wife Kathleen Ann Carlson, of Weymouth; his son, Paul John Carlson, of Plainville; his daughter Sheila Kathleen Joyce and her husband Brian, of East Sandwich; his grandsons, Nolan Michael Joyce and Aidan Paul Joyce.  Paul is also survived by his loving brother Robert Carlson and his wife Ruth of Vermont, and his brother-in-law Andrew O’Brien of New Hampshire, and many adoring nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to Paul’s caregivers, Me’ and Ally.

Graveside Services and Military Honors will be celebrated privately.
