Thornton, John P. of Quincy, died on September 15, 2010. He was 72. Beloved husband of Margaret “Peggy” (Curran) Thornton of Quincy. Devoted father of Kathleen P. Thornton of New Bedford, Mary M. Sullivan and her husband Joseph of Pembroke and Patricia A. Thornton of Quincy. Loving brother of Mary Jolley of Framingham, Barbara Holzman of Braintree and Patrick Thornton of Dorchester. Cherished Grampy of Sean and Aidan Sullivan. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends. John was raised in Roxbury and later lived in South Boston before moving to Quincy 44 years ago. In his early years, he worked for the B.U. Bookstore and later as a Sales Person for Sears & Roebuck for 35 years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed spending time at Castle Island and attending various sporting events and activities througout his children’s lives, but his main passion was being with his two grandsons. His family describes him as a kind, supportive man with a great sense of humor. He was also a friend of Bill W. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 4 – 8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15AM on Tuesday, prior to the Funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 10 AM.
