John Patrick Murray, 89, of Weymouth passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He has lived in Weymouth for the past 65 years.
John was the beloved husband of the late Patricia K. (Mann) Murray for 57 years. Devoted father of their children; Catherine Portanova of Upton, John and his wife, Jean Murray of East Lyme, CT, JoAnn and her late husband, Joseph Pelland of Weymouth, Michael and his wife, Barbara Murray of Weymouth, the late Martin Murray, Joseph and his wife, Karen Murray, of Bridgewater, Maureen Reilly of Weymouth, Christine and her husband, Michael Parker of Weymouth, grandfather of 20 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, brother of the late Edward and his wife Marie Murray, brother-in-law of William and Gladys Mann, Sr. of Virginia, sister-in-law of Mary Mann of Braintree, sister-in-law of the late Barbara Murray, and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
John was a true gentleman with a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. John has touched countless lives and will be remembered fondly for his endless compassion and capacity to help others whenever he was needed.
John was lucky enough to retire early from the telephone company and enjoyed many years of traveling with his wife and family. A big part of John’s life included volunteering in the community. He was a daily communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish of Weymouth as well a Eucharistic minister. John was an active volunteer at the church, a member of the choir and very active with St. Vincent dePaul. He was one of the founders of the local chapter of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. John was a volunteer at the Swim with a Special Child program. He loved spending time with his family, especially Sunday dinners, and attending his grandchildren’s sports events. He also enjoyed entertaining his many friends with dinner and sing-a-longs. John always had a song to sing.
Visiting hours at McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, 40 Sea St, North Weymouth, 4-8 pm on Monday, March 15.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday March 16th, in Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 am
Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul, 1203 Commercial St., Weymouth, MA 02189.
For those unable to attend the mass, the mass will be recorded and uploaded to the McDonald Keohane web site.
