John P. Muldoon Jr.

John (Jack) P. Muldoon Jr., beloved husband of Marjorie (McAndrews) Muldoon passed away, May 12, 2014, surrounded by family, at the South Shore Hospital.

Born and raised in Dorchester, MA, Mr. Muldoon was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (’52).  Following graduation, he entered the Army and served in the Korean War (1952-54), earning several medals including the combat and infantryman badge.  After returning to the states, Mr. Muldoon began a career in sales, spending 34 years with the S.C. Johnson Wax Company.

Success in business, however, was always secondary to Mr. Muldoon’s commitment to community. While living in Dorchester, he was often involved with local politics. Mr. Muldoon was a founding member of the Codman Square Civic Association. He also was a founding member of Millstream A.C. Youth Baseball and instrumental in the development of Neponset Youth Hockey – two organizations in which he coached for several seasons. In fact, the Jack Muldoon Award was presented annually to the Neponset House League Champion.

His charitable causes continued when the family moved to Hingham. A daily communicant at St. Paul’s Church, Mr. Muldoon served on several of the church’s fundraising committees. He also continued coaching hockey, instructing special needs athletes for The Boston Bear Cubs MA Special Hockey organization.

Although he devoted countless hours to volunteerism, his real passion was his family. He and his wife Marjorie, had 10 children, 31 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Fondly remembered as Papa, Papa Jack and Daddy’s Papa, his sons and daughters will forever remember Kenwood St. block parties, trips to three Olympic Games, vacations to Madison New Hampshire, and later, winters in Naples Fl.

Mr. Muldoon’s excitement for celebrating holidays rivaled any child’s joy.  Christmas Grabs, Christmas Eve breakfast with the guys, Easter Egg Hunts, Fourth of July cookouts, and end-of-the summer lobster bakes, were just a few of the annual events, that he relished. His final family celebration was his 86th birthday, on April 28.

However, Mr. Muldoon did not have to travel far, nor needed an occasion, to do what he mastered over his lifetime – conversation. Whether a family member, colleague, neighbor or even a stranger, Mr. Muldoon could ease in and out of conversations, displaying a genuine interest in whatever topic was discussed. His secret was simple — concern and care for others.

Mr. Muldoon, was the son of the late John P. Muldoon. Sr., and Catherine (Rutledge) Muldoon. He was the brother of the late Gerald Muldoon and Paul  Muldoon and his sister, Janet Barry. He is survived by his wife Marjorie, of 62 years and his children: Kevin and his wife Patricia, of Hingham; Robert and his wife Linda, of Braintree; Maryanne, of Plymouth; Catherine Pugsley and her husband Stephen, of Braintree; Jean McPhee and her husband James, of Braintree; Stephen and his wife Donna, of Weymouth; Paul and his wife Ann, of Mansfield; Jane Burt and her husband Christopher, of Plymouth; Julie Quill and her husband John, of Norwell; and John  P. III, and his wife Loraine, of Cincinnati, OH. Mr. Muldoon also leaves a legacy of 31 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother Edward Muldoon and his wife Carol, of Hingham.
