John W. Maconochie

Maconochie, John W. of Quincy, formerly of North Weymouth, passed away on December 27, 2024, at age 71. John was known for his devotion to his family, his faith, his beloved Boston sports teams, and his wife of nearly 40 years, Ann “Dolly” (Cinquegrano).

An avid reader, and lover of chess and music, John’s greatest joys were found in appreciating life’s simple pleasures with his family. A true sports enthusiast, he was a proud, and usually very loud, staple on the sidelines of his daughters and grandchildren’s many events and activities, always with an ice cold Coca-Cola in hand. Whether it was skipping rocks at the beach, seashell hunting, tossing the ball around or taking trips to the ice cream parlor, moments he spent with his grandkids were the ones he cherished most.

John worked at Sprague Energy for 30 years, and happily added umpiring youth baseball to his resume later in life, enthusiastically sharing his love of the game with a new generation. An active member of St. Jerome’s Church, John’s kindness, humor, and unwavering faith touched all who knew him. His laughter, a familiar and comforting sound, will be missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of his family and friends.

John was predeceased by his parents, William and Evelyn Macononchie, and his brother James. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Ann, his daughters Lynne Little and husband Jason of Hanover, Lisa Murray and husband John of Abington, Nicole Cinquegrano of NH, Samantha Maconochie and husband Mike Boyle, of Quincy, Theresa Little and husband Ryan, of Abington, and Anne Maconochie of Quincy, along with his 13 cherished grandchildren - Ashley, Kaitlyn, Brock, Ophelia, Augustus, Daniel, Ethan, Alexis, Rawlins, Michael, Isla, Madison, and Amelia.

He is also survived by his sister Mary Page and her husband Steven, Richard Maconochie and his wife Brenda, sister-in-law Rosemary Maconochie, and brother David Maconochie, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on January 10th at 10:30 AM at St. Jerome Church, Weymouth, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause dear to John and Ann’s hearts.
