John “Jack” M. Rogers, of Quincy, died April 10, 2013.
Jack was born in Boston and was a lifelong resident of Quincy. He was a graduate of North Quincy High School. Jack was a supervisor for the Massachusetts State Lottery in Braintree before retiring in 1990. In his earlier years, Jack was an investigator for the Attorney General’s office.
Jack was a devoted Catholic and was a daily communicant for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy, St. Agatha’s Church in Milton and worked with the poor for over 45 years. He was also a Eucharist Minister, delivering communion to the Carney Hospital, local nursing homes and to the sick in their homes. His favorite pastime was attending retreats with the Trappist Monks of Spencer, MA since 1966. Jack enjoyed lunches with friends, reading, and was a fan of all Boston sports teams. Jack was proud to have served in the Pacific Theater and North China with the First Marine Division of the United States Marine Corp, during WWII.
Beloved brother of Mary C. Martin of Weymouth and the late Albert L. Rogers. Devoted uncle of Stephen A. Martin and his wife Linda J. Martin of Norfolk and Susan E. Martin of Bridgewater. Great uncle of Samuel H. Martin and Zachary W. Martin of Norfolk.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Tuesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, East Milton, at 10:30 AM. Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. Donations in memory of John may be made to Dominican Nuns at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, 543 Springfield Ave., Summit, NJ 07901.
