Barbati, John M. of Weymouth, passed away March 18, 2013.
Son of the late Teresa (Palaza) and Ramo Barbati. He was the devoted husband of Anna (Saccone) Barbati of Weymouth.
John was born and raised in Dorchester, MA. He attended Boston’s Commerce High. John was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 67th Station Compliment Squadron stationed in England. He later married his beloved wife Anna and shared 64 years with her, raising their family in Weymouth.
John was retired from the City of Boston and the U.S. Postal Service and as he like to say “beat the system”, being fortunate to enjoy 30 years of retirement. In later retirement years, John and his wife relocated their residence spending winters in Ft. Pierce, FL and summers at Leisurewoods in Rockland.
His grandchildren were his greatest joy which was apparent by the love they returned to him. John enjoyed travelling throughout the U.S. and Europe. He was an avid Bocci and Shuffleboard player and enjoyed music and dancing. John had a wonderful sense of humor which he shared in his friendly manner with everyone. He was much loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan Turgiss and her husband Robert of Scituate, Theresa White and her husband John of Plymouth, John Barbati and his wife Lissa of Buckingham, PA, David Barbati and his wife Janet of Pembroke, William Barbati and his wife Kathleen of Marshfield, and Robert Barbati and his wife Lisa of Duxbury; eleven grandchildren; his siblings Victor Barbati of Braintree, Ray Barbati of Randolph, Phyliss Mahoney of Dedham, Eleanor Ferzoco of Norwood and Carol Smith of Richmond, VA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home EAST WEYMOUTH at 3 Charles Street (corner of Charles & Middle Street) Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
