Sullivan, John L. of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester – St. Mark’s Parish, died surrounded by his loving family on April 20, 2018, at the age of 88.
The beloved husband of 58 years to Pauline A. (Thornley) Sullivan of Quincy. Loving father of John T. Sullivan of Scituate, Mary-Alice Sullivan and Robert E. Sullivan both of Quincy and Paula George and her husband Kevin of Dorchester. Brother of the late Thomas, James, Joseph, Mary, Gilbert and Edward Sullivan. Cherished grandfather of Christina George. He is survived by his cousin Sr. Barbara Gorham, SIsters of Charity Halifax, his sisters in law, Sr. Augustine, Carmelite Sisters of the Ages and Infirm and Alice (Mac) Thornley. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John grew up in Dorchester, he attended St. Mark’s School and then graduated from Mission High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military career, he married the love of his life Pauline and together they raised their family in Quincy. John enjoyed reading the newspaper, he read many each day. For many years, John sold newspapers on Sunday in downtown Boston near St. James Church. He enjoyed music, camping and boating and was a member of the Hough’s Neck yacht Club. John also enjoyed watching cowboy movies and going on vacation with his family at Sebago Lake in Maine and Green Harbor – Marshfield beaches. He worked for more than 30 years at the South Postal Annex in South Boston before his retirement in 2003. The foundation of his life was his family and his faith. They were the two most important parts of his life. He will be remembered as a devoted family man who cherished his time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. His influences continues onto his family and every life he touched.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
