John L. “Roy” Campbell

John L. “Roy” Campbell of Quincy, formerly of Cambridge, March 23, 2006. Son of the late James R. and Daisy (VanIderstine) Campbell. Step son of the late Clifford Carroll. Loving brother of Pearl Frazier and her husband Edward of Quincy, Thomas “Bert” Campbell of CA, Charles Campbell of NH, Shirley Bester of Marlboro, Vivian DeLeire of Melrose and the late Neil, William & James Campbell and the late Muriel Gardner. Roy is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, WOLLASTON, Tuesday at 11 AM. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM. Burial in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge. John L. Campbell went by the name “Roy”. He was born in Somerville and spent most of his life in Cambridge. He entered into the United States Army in 1943 and served in Japan during WWII. Roy met General MacArthur and toured with him in Japan. During his service he was awarded a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts as well as a Good Conduct Medal and a Presidential Citation. After his tour of duty he worked for the Charles Connick Stained Glass Company in Boston for 40 years, retiring back in 1985. Roy was an active member at the Salvation Army Seniors Group as well as a member of the Deerfield Senior Group and the Abigail Adams Group in Weymouth. He loved to garden and enjoyed growing his tomato plants. Roy was a long time Red Sox fan, his all time favorite player was Ted Williams. Roy was part of a video that was produced by the Charles Connick company showing the last stain glass window made by the company before it closed in 1985. He was a very patriotic man. He was a devoted soldier and very proud of his service to his country. He will be sadly missed by his sister Pearl and her husband Ed.
