Zanstuck, John J. of South Weymouth, died August 4, 2023. He was 75.
Born in 1948, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Anna (Smith) Zanstuck.
Born in Charlestown, John attended Roman Catholic Primary and Middle School and graduated from Boston Technical High School. John served honorably in the US Air Force for four years stationed in Texas, North Dakota, Otis here in Massachusetts, and in Vietnam where he was exposed to the Agent Orange which ultimately killed him. John graduated from Bunker Hill Community College with an associate’s degree in criminal justice and entered a long and interesting career of service to the country with the US Postal Inspection Service as their overnight Police Sergeant in their Boston Division. He did important, at times dangerous work, made friends and mentored several young people. He found love late in life and with family, made a month-long trip to familial ancestral lands of Poland, Germany, and Austria. He treasured the heartfelt warmth and welcome of the relatives he met and often spoke of returning there someday. John loved his family greatly and being surrounded by all the wonders of nature; loved old movies, maple walnut ice cream, following the weather forecasts and tending to his plants. He admired the work of Olaf Wiegharst and preferred Baldacci, Clancy and Cussler. John was especially kind to dogs, kitties, and children; he fed the squirrels and birds every winter. John put his trust in God and was a good man. He will be greatly missed.
Loving husband of 27 years to Deborah Zanstuck of South Weymouth. Cherished father to Matthew Zanstuck of Pembroke, Scott Zanstuck of Pembroke and JJ Zanstuck of Weymouth. Beloved brother of Marie Zanstuck of Revere and the late Carol Zanstuck. Companion to JoJo the cat.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Wednesday, 8/16, from 8:30-9:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So.
