John Joseph Laplume

John Joseph “Gus” LaPlume, age 89, passed away suddenly on October 12, 2015, while celebrating his 5th wedding anniversary in Bermuda.

John was born in Andover, raised in Quincy and lived in Weymouth for over 60 years. John was a longtime member of First Church in Weymouth. He was currently an active parishioner of St. Jerome Parish. John served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a draftsman for MIT for many years before retiring in 1992. John enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was a kind and thoughtful man always volunteering in his community. He was a member of the Weymouth Senior Club. He was a member of the senior bowling league and was an avid hiker. We will miss his keen mind and great since of humor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

John is survived by his wife Mary (Noll) Costa-LaPlume, son Russ and Connie LaPlume of Grayson, GA daughter Laurie Moffi of Marshfield MA, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren with one on the way, stepchildren Peggy Noll of North Weymouth, Jimmy Noll of Fitchburg, Donald Noll of Abington, Katie Pacione of Quincy. He was the brother of Jeanne Silva of Quincy, Norman LaPlume and wife Margie of Braintree, Kathleen Pearson and husband Kenneth of Weymouth; brother of the late Mary Costello, Claire Fasci, Phillip LaPlume, Alan LaPlume, Ronald LaPlume and Kenneth LaPlume, all of Quincy. He was uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Goodwin), and his parents, Henry and Catherine LaPlume.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.)  Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 11 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 12 PM. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at a later date.

Donations in memory of John may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
