John “Jack” Orpen

Orpen, John “Jack”, a longtime Hull resident, died November 10, 2016, he was 80. The beloved husband of  61 years to Helen(McCarthy) Orpen of Hull. Loving father of John H. Orpen and his wife Kathleen of Hanson,  Patrice Pumphrey and her companion James Watts of Hull  Stephen J. Orpen and his wife Susan of Sutton, David Orpen and his wife Jill Cincotta Orpen of Hull and Audrey Conley and her husband Paul of Holbrook. Jack is the devoted grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was the oldest son of the late Henry and Jean (Urquhart) Orpen from Charlestown. Brother of Patty and Peter Simard of Easton, Jean Raso of Gilford, NH, Donald Orpen of Laconia, NH, and Richard & Jenny Orpen of Randolph and the late Robert, Carol and Henry Orpen. 

John A. Orpen  was born in Charlestown in 1936, living there until 1970, where he moved to Hull with his family. He worked at Winthrop Printing in South Boston for over 48 years and retired in 2004. He held various positions at Winthrop Printing such as Shipper Receiver, Maintenance, and pressman. John was the organizer of the company bowling teams and managed the teams for over 20 years. He was an avid ten pin bowler and a huge Red Sox fan.  He thoroughly enjoyed his many trips to Eastover every year.  It was there where he met his many friends, who for over 40 years remained active with monthly get togethers. John, who for over 20 years participated in his annual manly man weekends which was established in 1991 for a late friend, Zeke Marsden. This annual get together was special for John, as all 3 sons were there for him every year. John most recently was active each summer with new friends and relatives in the WoodBrook community in Fitzwilliams, NH, where he enjoyed time with his many nieces and nephews. John will be sadly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), HINGHAM. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 9:15am prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church- Hull on Monday at 10 AM. Burial in Hull Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to Special Olympics, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
