John F. “Jack” Mccarthy

John “Jack” McCarthy died peacefully at home at the age of 95.

John is survived by his former wife Phyllis McCarthy, the mother of his children Elaine Moore and her husband Russell of Rockland, Allyson Keough and her husband George of Braintree and Lynne McCarthy and Brian Bennet of Braintree. Jack was predeceased by his former wife Claire Pelletier and her children Gary Bennett, Donna Guiel, Scott Bennett and the late Brian Bennett. Jack is also survived by his longtime beloved companion Lorraine Powers of Weston, four grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.

Jack was fortunate enough to have lived several lifetimes in the span of his 95 years and traveled the world. He started his professional career after graduating from Northeastern University as an agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation based in their Miami field office. Despite an offer of employment from Howard Hughes, Jack gravitated toward the financial sector and spent the vast majority of his professional career at Bank of Boston retiring in 1985 as Vice President. During his tenure at Bank Of Boston Jack was fortunate to have been able to take advantage of his love of learning with graduate finance courses at MIT and Stanford University in California.

Jack was a gleeful raconteur with a rapier wit, a lover of great philosophers and avid chess player. He also had a voracious appetite for great literature and always had several favorite books in rotation from which he would quote on a regular basis to anyone within earshot. Jack also enjoyed a good poker game, great scotch and fall football. He was also a proud veteran who retired from the United States Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. Jack truly personified all of the attributes of “the greatest generation”.
