John “Jack” Lawler

John “Jack” Lawler, 90, passed away at home on May, 18, 2022.

He was born on November 3, 1931, also at home, in Waltham, was raised in Mattapan, and lived in South Weymouth for the past 56 years. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War era.

He was the middle son of the late Mary E. and James A. Lawler was also preceded in death by his brothers, James Lawler and Paul Lawler.

Jack is survived by his wife and closest friend, Anne (Quigley) Lawler, his daughter Susan (Lawler) Callinan and her husband, Kevin of Bridgewater. He was the proud grandfather of MaryBeth, Amanda, Peter and Annmarie Callinan, Laura (Callinan) Ferioli and her husband Mark Ferioli, and the adoring great grandfather of Carter John Ferioli . Jack was treasured as the eldest member of his extended family and will be remembered as the life of every party.

Employed by New England Telephone for 35 years, Jack spent most of his career in the Quincy Test Center. After retiring in1990, he took up golfing with his buddies at the Rockland Golf Club and was a life member of the Weymouth Elks.

Jack was a devoted Boston sports fan and never missed an opportunity to brag about seeing the Red Sox play at Fenway for 60 cents when he was a kid.

Jack, Anne and Susan spent their family vacations camping and also visiting family in County Clare, Ireland. Later, with Susan, Kevin and the grandchildren, he enjoyed vacations to Disney World and a 40th Anniversary Cruise to Bermuda. With Anne, he toured the National Parks, the southwestern United States, including Jack’s old army base at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. They took a rail trip across Canada, spent weeks at Myrtle Beach, traveled to Europe and to islands in the Caribbean.

The envy of all, Jack enjoyed 32 years of well-deserved retirement. Throughout his retirement he and Anne spent 10 winters in Fort Myers, Florida and enjoyed 21 summers at their cottage on the Connecticut shoreline in Niantic with Susan, Kevin and all of their grandchildren. No matter the location, Jack always found his way to an audience for his stories about his long and lucky life.

As his health declined over the past few years, Jack kept his sense of humor and continued to entertain his family. He received compassionate care from Hospice Services of MA, especially his health aide Jessica who always made him “feel like a million bucks!”
