John “Jack” Carey

John “Jack” Carey of East Dennis, passed away on Saturday May 16, 2020.   

Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late John J. Carey and Roma R. (Danieli).  Jack was the beloved husband of Nelma Carey of East Dennis, and the devoted father of Janel Donlan and her husband Paul of Hingham, Susan Gannon and her husband Paul of Hingham, and the late Carol Carey.  He was the brother of Daurie Schwab of VA and the proud grandfather of Caroline and Jacqueline Gannon and Mark Donlan.  He was the devoted Uncle Jackie to Cary Schwab and his wife Bonnie of VA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack was a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII and the Korean War.  He was a graduate of Stonehill College.  Jack was a Boston Police Sergeant Detective retiring several years ago. Jack and his wife spent 15 winters in Clearwater, FL. He was a Red Sox fan and enjoyed attending games with his grandchildren. Family was so important to Jack and he loved when his family and friends spent time on Cape Cod with him. 

In light of current circumstances, all services are private with burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Jack’s memory to Hospice of the South Shore Hospital, 55 Fogg Road, South Weymouth MA 02190.

Traditionally, the funeral is an opportunity for the community to gather in support of one another. Although we cannot gather together with John’s family at this time, friends may offer their support by sharing a special memory or message by clicking the link above.
