John J. Savage, Jr. of Weymouth died February 27 after a long illness.
Born in 1932 in Arlington, MA, the son of John J and Mary L (Mullen) Savage, he grew up in North Weymouth. John was a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School. He attained a certificate in accounting at Bentley College and became a CPA. He was very interested in tax law and worked for Price Waterhouse in Boston, State Mutual Insurance Company of America (Worcester Office), Bausch & Lomb in Rochester, NY and Insilco Corp. in Meriden, CT.
John had a strong work ethic and paid his way through college by digging clams on the South Shore. He was fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian and learned sign language in his later years. He was an advocate for education and service to the community. He was a Charter Member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks #2232, and Past Exalted Ruler (PER) #4 of the Lodge. He was also a former member and chairman of the Weymouth Planning Board.
Predeceased by a nephew, Dudley Savage, John is survived by his wife, Gail, of Weymouth, his brother Thomas L. Savage, of Weymouth, and his sister in law Judy Savage of Osterville. Also his children James Savage and wife Sarah of Rozet, WY; Mary Savage-Dunham and husband Jeffrey of Weymouth; Peter Savage and wife Sharlene of Cheshire, CT; and, Amy Savage-Patterson and husband Stanley of Rhinbeck, NY. His beloved grandchildren Sallyrose, Autumn, Luke and Ethan, his nephew Thomas Savage of Osterville, his grand-nephew Thomas Savage of Dorchester, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off RT.3A-Bicknell Sq.) on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM when the Elks Lodge of Sorrow Ceremony will be conducted. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Jerome Church, Weymouth at 10 AM. Burial in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Weymouth will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to the Weymouth Lodge of Elks #2232 – PER Scholarship Fund, c/o Frank Barone, 1197 Washington Street/PO Box 125, South Weymouth, MA 02190-0005.
