John J. Mullay, Jr.

John J. Mullay, Jr. of Quincy, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

“Johnny” was born on February 5, 1942, to John and Agnes (Augustus) Mullay in Cambridge, MA.  After graduating, Johnny enlisted in the United States Army.  Once he returned home, he started his first of two full time jobs.  In 1965 he started working for American Airlines and in 1971 he embarked on his police career.  Beginning as an Inspector for the Registry of Motor Vehicles and then went onto become a Massachusetts State Trooper.  Johnny retired from American Airlines in 1996 and from the State Police in 1999.

Johnny was a Civil War buff and enjoyed collecting artifacts and attending shows that pertained to the Civil War.  Every year he would pack up the car and his entire family would drive to Gettysburg, PA.  There they would walk the battlefields and learn the history of the Civil War (once again).  He loved to travel with his family and when they weren’t in Gettysburg, they traveled to Disney, St. Thomas, Aruba, Hawaii and many other beautiful destinations.

Beloved husband of 55 years to Barbara (Szulewski) Mullay.  Devoted father of Deborah (Mullay) Hutchings and her husband David of Quincy, and Kevin Mullay and his wife Brenda of Wexford, PA.  Cherished grandfather of Jordan, Brady and Ryan Mullay of Wexford, PA and Gavin Hutchings of Quincy.  Loving brother of Agnes Druss of Waltham.  Also survived by his sister-in-law, Emily Raimondi and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his sister Jane Fonti of Wilmington.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Thursday February 17, 3-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. Funeral service will be celebrated following the visitation at 6 PM in Keohane Funeral Home, Quincy. A private burial will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
