McGrath, John J. of N. Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, passed away March 27, 2012. Beloved husband of 48 years to Antona “Toni” (Condron) McGrath of N. Quincy. Loving father of Cathy Curley and her husband Michael of Norwood, Joan Coulter and her husband Stephen of Scituate and Sean McGrath of Milton. Cherished grandfather of Patrick, Meghan, Stephen, Brian, Kevin, Caroline and Niall. Brother of Peggy Smith of Scotland, Kathleen Holian of Ireland, and the late Jimmy McGrath, Ita Kelly, Mamie Molloy, Desmond McGrath, and his twin brother Malachy McGrath. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. John’s family was the central focus of his life. He adored his loving wife, children and grandchildren. After leaving Ireland, he traveled to England and Australia before following his brother to America in 1959. John was passionate about his work, as a self employed painter and wallpaper hanger, as well as his love of dancing. He and his wife belonged to the Irish Social Clubs in West Roxbury and Norwood as well as the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. John was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. A sports enthusiast, he played Gaelic hurling and ran cross country track in Ireland. He also enjoyed cheering for all the Boston sports teams. John was an honest and dependable man who always took care of his family. He will be remembered for his integrity and deep faith. He was truly an exceptional man and will be missed by all. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 2-6 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations in memory of John may be made to St. Mark’s Parish, 20 Roseland St., Dorchester, MA 02124 or Tufts Medical Center, Radiation Oncology Center General Purpose Fund, 800 Washington Street, Box 231, Boston, MA 02111.
