John J. Maguire, 64, of Northbridge, MA, formerly of Dorchester, passed away at home on March 23, 2024.
John was a proud member of the Boston Fire Department and was planning to retire in July. He was currently stationed at Engine 55 in West Roxbury, and, in the past, served on Engine 33, Engine 22 and Engine 30. He loved his job, but his greatest accomplishment was raising his son Michael with his former wife, Mary. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
John was the son of the late John J. (BFD) and Katherine P. “Kitty”(Dorney) Maguire of Dorchester. He is survived by his beloved son Michael Maguire and his former wife and Michael’s mom Mary Boyce Maguire, both of Dorchester. Also surviving are his beloved sisters Kathleen McGrath and her husband Tom; Mary Beth Melody and her husband Jack; Patricia Maguire; and Ann Jordan and her husband Kevin (BFD), all of Quincy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, his Maguire, McDonough and Dorney cousins, and many friends including “Janet from the pool” and his neighbors Hailey, Eviee, Sam Poland and Michelle O’Neil whose overwhelming kindness to John was greatly appreciated by his family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours on Tuesday, April 2nd 3-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 3rd prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Agatha’s Church, Milton at 10:30 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Death and Welfare Fund, Boston Firefighters Local 718, 55 Hallet St., Boston, MA 02124. John was a kind, generous and thoughtful person. Please consider performing a random act of kindness in his honor. Nothing would have made him happier.
