Lyons, John J. of Hingham, formerly of Braintree, passed away January 7, 2013 at the age of 83.
John served in the Air Force during WWII and later worked for the Department of Defense for 37 years, retiring as Chief of Production. John received his MBA from Northeastern University in 1965. He was a Braintree Town Meeting member for over 35 years and also served on the Capital Planning and Zoning Board Committees. When his sons were young, John volunteered his time with the Boy Scouts. His family remembers fondly his ability to fix or build anything and his passion for his VW Karmann Ghia and most of all his smile, sense of humor, kindness and generosity. He was a true gentle man.
Beloved husband of Gerry Lyons. Loving father of Jonathan Lyons and wife Julianne of Raynham, Christopher Lyons and wife Diana of Brea, CA, Matthew Lyons and wife Julie of Plymouth and Tracie Lyons and Marc Lange of Pembroke. Brother of Maurice Lyons of Arlington and David Lyons of Cambridge. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and his canine companion Tess.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial gathering on Saturday 1-4 PM, with a prayer service to be held at 3 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to the Salvation Army, 6 Baxter St., Quincy, MA 02169.
