John J. Kelliher

John J. Kelliher of Hingham passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, February 25, 2022. He was 86. 

John was born in Dorchester to Mary (Healey) and John J. Kelliher. John went to elementary school at St. Ann’s in Dorchester, graduated from Boston Latin High School Class of 1953, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston College Class of 1957 and Master of Business Administration from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College in 1971. 

On November 13, 1965, he married the love of his life, Dorothy, and they moved to Hingham to start their family. John had a long and distinguished career as an Insurance Broker and was loved by his many clients. 

John was loyal to those he loved, whether family, friends, or one of his beloved dogs. He was friendly, kind and was known to strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He enjoyed spending time with family and watching his grandchildren participate in basketball, soccer, hockey and of course baseball, which we all knew to be his favorite! He truly enjoyed spending time at his house in Falmouth with family and friends alike. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and all Boston College sports teams. 

Devoted husband of 56 years to Dorothy R. (Bagnell) Kelliher, John also leaves behind his three daughters and their families: Erin McGourty and her husband Hugh of Hingham, Kara Erdody and her husband Mark of Braintree, and Caitlin Gravina and her husband Scott of Norwell, including nine grandchildren, Hugh and Keira McGourty, Gavin, Tucker, Nolan, and Maxwell Erdody, and Ava, Adelle, and Corbin Gravina. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during visiting hours on Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 4-7 PM in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Friday, March 4, 2022 prior to the Funeral Mass in The Church of the Resurrection, Hingham at 10:30 AM. Burial in The High Street Cemetery, Hingham. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association .
