John J. “Jack” Green

Green, John “Jack” of Quincy, passed away April 20, 2011. Beloved husband of Jean (Mayer) Green of Squantum. Loving father of John J. Green and his wife Marilyn, Marie K. Keough and her husband Danny all of Squantum, Anthony Green and his wife Susan of Hingham. Brother of Bertha Mudge of Whitman, Barbara Matthies of Norwood, Mary Butts of Brockton and the late Robert Green. Devoted grandfather of John, Daniel and Elizabeth Green of Squantum and Megan and Joseph Keough of Walpole. Jack was born and raised in Dorchester . He was a graduate of Boston English High School and furthering his education with a Bachelors degree from Boston University and a Masters Degree from Boston State College. Jack worked as a teacher for Charlestown High School for 31 years before retiring in 2000. He was Head Football Coach for 25 years for Charlestown High School. Jack had many awards throughout the years including the William Ohrenberger Award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston, he won Coach of the year numerous times, Assoc. of New England Officials Award, Mark T. Crehan Award, head coach of the Charlestown Townies and Billy’s Cowboys for many years in the Boston Senior Park League Championships and Eastern Football League where he won 8 Championships with both clubs, also the past president of the Boston Senior Park League. Jack was selected to coach the Shriners All-Star Game. He was inducted into the Massachusetts Football Hall of Fame and the American Football Association Hall of Fame in Canton, OH in 2002. Most importantly Jack’s family was the most important part of his life. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Saturday 4-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Quincy at 11 AM. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Arch Street Church, 100 Arch Street, Bosotn, MA 02110.
