John J. Donovan, Ret. BFD, a longtime Dorchester resident, died January 30, 2017 at the age of 95, surrounded by his family. The beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Rooney) Donovan. Cherished father of John J. Donovan of Quincy, Maureen Bono and her husband Louie of Saugus, Dorothy Connolly and her husband Jay and Anne Marie Keenan and her husband Jack Keenan all of Hanover and the late Robert Donovan. Brother of Sr. Ellen William Donovan, Sisters of Charity of Halifax and the late Mary Sullivan, William, Walter, Albert and Robert Donovan. He was the devoted grandfather to his 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A proud W.W. II Navy veteran, John was a Boston Fire Fighter, Local 718, for 40 years retiring back in 1986. The foundation of his life was his family, they were the cornerstone of all that was truly important to him. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 5-8 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 10:15 AM on Friday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 243 Neponset Avenue, Dorchester at 11 AM.
Burial in Hanover Center Cemetery.
Donations in memory of John may be made to Boston Fire Department Death and Welfare Family Fund, 55 Hallet Street, Dorchester, MA 02124.
