John Michael “Jack“ Henry of Hull, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home on November 1, 2024. He was 72 years old.
Jack was born in Worcester Massachusetts on August 11, 1952, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Briscoe) Henry. He was raised in Scituate, Massachusetts, attended local schools, and graduated from Scituate High School, where he played football and hockey. Along the way, he earned the highest rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts. He continued his education at the University of Utah, where he earned a bachelors degree in English literature.
He eventually found interest and natural ability in carpentry and construction. He went on to spend essentially his entire career as a hard-working quality builder. He was the founder and owner of JMH Construction of Hull, a general contracting firm that serviced many towns and clients throughout the Boston metro area with high quality construction and remodeling. Jack enjoyed his work and the relationships he developed over many years of service.
Jack was the beloved husband of Lizbeth M. Kinkead of Hull, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years, most of it in the beautiful waterfront home in Hull that they shared that Jack basically rebuilt by himself.
He was predeceased by his only sibling Mary (Henry) Hatch.
Besides his wife, Jack’s true, lifelong love and passion was the sea, and sailing in particular. He began sailing small boats at a young age and in 1961, at the age of nine, he received his first sailing course diploma. He then spent most of the rest of his life living and working in and around the water. He owned several sailboats over the years, which were his pride and joy. Jack always made everyone feel safe and comfortable when he was in command of a boat - always calm, always aware, always prepared, eyes on the horizon.
He was an avid surfer and downhill skier in his earlier years, and he became a fine gardener in his later years, turning their property into an oasis of birds, berries, and flowers by the sea.
Jack was also a lifelong musician and songwriter, another one of his great passions. Primarily a folk guitarist, he could play multiple instruments. He entertained his extended family and friends for decades when he would break out his beloved guitar after dinner and sing songs to us all, many of which he had written. He and several longtime friends played together regularly over decades of time, right up until shortly before his passing, and this was a source of great enjoyment for him.
Jack will be remembered for his gentle spirit, for his craftsmanship, hard work, and dependability, and for the calm and beautiful light that he cast on everyone he met . He will also be remembered for his strength and grace, even in his final days.
He was a doer, a lover of nature and the ocean, a trusted neighbor and friend, an outstanding brother, uncle, and brother-in-law, and a devoted and loving husband.
There’s not much more to say other than that everyone who ever met Jack, loved Jack. He will be sorely missed by all his extended family, friends, and colleagues.
Following his cremation, there will be a celebration of Jack’s life which will be planned and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in Jack’s name to the charitable organization of one’s choice.
