John H. “Jack” Horrigan

Horrigan, John H. Jack of Hingham, died peacefully November 2, 2021 at his home at Linden Ponds.  

Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, of 60 years, Marguerite “Peg” (Feeney) in 2009. He is survived by four children, Marguerite Coleman (husband, Dan) of Andover, Jack Horrigan (wife, Jan Ryan) of Amherst, Anne Donovan (husband, Mike) of Dover, and Jeanne Horrigan (husband, Ted Mone) of Amherst. He leaves twelve grandchildren, Patrick Coleman, Dan Coleman, Erin Shevlin, Caitlin Horrigan, Megan Horrigan, Michael Donovan, Kelly Donovan. Jillian Zinkus, Sean Donovan, Conor Donovan, Matthew Mone, and Nick Mone. Jack is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, including three born within the past few months. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Beatrice (Yeagle) Horrigan and three siblings, sister, Theresa, and twins, Edward and Claire. Jack is survived by his sister, Claudia, and nieces and nephews. 

Jack spent much of his childhood in So. Boston and he attended high school in Boston, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 just prior to WWII. He spent over four years serving on the USS Mount Vernon, a troop transport ship that travelled all over the world. After marrying Peg, the love of his life, in 1949, they briefly lived in Lower Mills before moving to Quincy. The family also lived in So. Portland, ME and Smithtown, NY before returning to the greater Boston area , settling in Weymouth in 1971. Jack worked for General Motors for many years, starting in the mail room and working his way up to the car distribution department for Chevrolet. He eventually retired from a civilian position with the Defense Dept., where he worked in So. Boston. His family meant everything to him and he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A proud Navy veteran, Jack was a long-time member of VFW Post 8699 in Lower Mills. He was also a member of the Quincy City Club and the Linden Ponds Veterans Association. He and Peg were parishioners for many years at St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth, where Jack volunteered in the CCD Program and served as a Eucharistic minister. For the past twelve years, Jack resided at Linden Ponds, where he established many new friendships with other residents and staff members. He enjoyed a special friendship with Christine Horte there and they remained good friends until his passing.  Jack enjoyed traveling and he and Peg visited the British Isles, Canada, and Barbados, as well as Florida and the western US. He was especially proud of his Irish heritage and he loved the time that they spent in Ireland. Jack also enjoyed trips to Martha’s Vineyard during the summer months where he made many friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he provided the gift of laughter to so many others over the span of his lifetime. 

Visiting hours will take place on Saturday morning (Nov. 6) from 8:00 – 9:30 AM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home at 809 Main St. in So. Weymouth. A funeral mass will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church at 10:00 and interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Francis Xavier Church or the Linden Ponds Student Scholarship Fund c/o Lori Rehleder at 203 Linden Ponds Way Hingham, MA 02043.
