John G. Contos

Contos, John G. “Johnny” of Quincy, died May 15, 2015. 

Family was the focal point of John’s life.  He adored his wife Claire throughout their 69 years of marriage.  His father died when John was only three months old and he knew what it was like to grow up without a dad.  This experience allowed him to focus all his attention on being a great dad.  His father was one of the original owners of the ”No Name” restaurant in Boston.  Mr. Contos was a milkman for Whitings Milk for over 25 years, a job he loved as he was able to become friends with his many customers.  He later worked for Verizon Telephone, where he retired as an HVAC Technician.  Johnny loved the ocean, boating, fishing, Red Sox, and Patriots.  He traveled the world with his wife Claire and was a longtime member of the North Quincy Knights of Columbus.  Mr. Contos was hard-working, kind, and a true gentleman.  He idolized his wife and loved their family Christmas celebrations. 

Beloved husband of Claire M. (Mostyn) Contos of Quincy.  Loving father of Gregory W. Contos and his wife Josephine of Littleton, John C. Contos and his wife Geraldine of Quincy, Lisa M. McGrath-Smith and her husband Rick of Quincy, and the late Michael D. Contos.  Cherished son of the late Gregory Contos and Madeline (O’Meara) Contos.  Brother of Pearl Fraser of Holbrook. Father in law of the late David McGrath.  Grandfather of Glen Misho, Colin McGrath, Spencer Smith, Brendan McGrath, and Erin McGrath.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday 4-7 PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., QUINCY. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:45 AM Monday prior to the Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Quincy at 10:30 AM.  Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
