John F. Moran

John F. Moran of Braintree passed away peacefully at home at the age of 99 on January 13, 2019.

He was born in Medford and raised in Dorchester. He graduated from Mechanic Arts High School, Boston in 1937 and earned a Degree from Massachusetts Bay Community College, Boston in 1973. John proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a VFW State Commander. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years and was instrumental in the opening of the South Postal Annex in Boston where he later became superintendent. After retirement John was an active member and officer of NARFE. John was active in Saint Clare’s Parish in Braintree, serving as a lector and member of the choir and parish council.

John had a flair for writing and penned “The Moran Family Tree” dating back to 1878. He was the founding editor of “The Quill” at Grove Manor Estates in Braintree where he developed many warm relationships. In his late eighties always wanting to live life to the fullest, he took up art, chair yoga and joined the choral group, “The Pacemakers”. Above all John loved his family and took pride at being known as “The Moran Patriarch”. He is the last of his Great Generation to leave our family and his loving legacy of putting family first will continue on with the rest of the “Moran Clan”. 

He was the beloved husband of 61 years of the late Dorothea V. Moran. Cherished father of Janice D. Carrigan and her husband Kevin of Kingston, Michael J. Moran and his wife Marian of Marshfield and Andrea J. McHugh and her husband John of Plymouth. Loving Papa to 8; Coleen M. Carrigan of CA, Kevin C. Carrigan of Melrose, Tracy A. Moran of Marshfield, Rachel A. Moran of Pembroke, John F. Moran II of Marshfield, Erin E. Curran of West Roxbury, Brian P. McHugh of Plymouth and Colin F. McHugh of Plymouth. Proud Great Papa to 6. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday 4-8 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home SOUTH WEYMOUTH at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 9AM Thursday prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Clare’s Church, Braintree at 10AM. Burial in MA National Cemetery, Bourne following the funeral mass.
