Desmond, John Francis died on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a short and courageous battle at the age of 51. A life long resident of Quincy. Son of the late Joseph L. & Eleanor (Connolly) Desmond. Loving and devoted father of Kellie & Kristen Desmond both of Quincy. Brother of Daniel Desmond of Chatham, Kathleen Halpin of Quincy, Richard Desmond of Braintree, Maureen Cronin of Manchester, NH, Nancy Eastman of Marshfield, Paul Desmond of Quincy and the late Patricia Hennessy. John is the former husband of Cathy Desmond Greene of Quincy. John is also survived by his loving companion Tracie Donahue and his best buddy Ruby and many nieces and nephews. John was born on June 22, 1958 and attended St. Ann’s School, he graduated from North Quincy High School Class of 1976. He completed the Quincy College Surgical Technician Program and was employed as a Surgical Technician at Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester for the past 17 years. He was part of the coaching staff at Quincy Youth Football as a defense coordinator for the North Quincy Apaches. He also held the title as a New England Golden Glove Champion and most recently was inducted into the North Quincy High School Football Hall of Fame. John was a devoted Boston sports fan, he enjoyed football, boxing and the Red Sox. He was very proud of his Irish heritage. He will be remembered as a devoted father, a cherished brother, great friend and fun loving man who was full of life who stayed courageous to the very end. He will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Sunday, August 23, 2009 2 – 7PM in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock Street, Wollaston A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 am on Monday, August 24, 2009 prior to the Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Monday at 10 AM. Burial in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to North Quincy Apaches, Desmond Family Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Bank of America or to the Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice 310 Allston St. Brighton, MA 02135.
