Hemphill, John E. of Hyannis September 4, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Ellen A. (Guilfoy) Hemphill, Loving father of Ellen “Penny” Savage and her husband Richard of Marshfield, Marilyn “Mandy” Chandler and her husband Scott of North Eastham, Paul Hemphill and his wife Marianne of Marshfield, Mark Hemphill and his wife Donna of Cumberland, R.I., Peter Hemphill and his wife Theresa of Wareham, Matthew Hemphill and his wife Clare of Essex,VT. Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Selinger and her husband Jeff of Soldotna, AK, and the late John W. Hemphill, brother of the late James and Richard Hemphill and Ruth Thompson. Also lovingly survived by 12 grandchildren and the late Sarah Rose Hemphill, and 2 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., WOLLASTON, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Saint Ann’s Church, Wollaston at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours Friday 4- 8 PM. Burial in Couch Cemetery, Marshfield. Donations in memory of Hemphill may be made to Jimmy Fund, 1309 Beacon St., Brookline, MA 02446-9918. Mr. Hemphill was born in Boston and raised in Roxbury. He attended Boston Latin High School and Graduated from Fitchburg State College with a degree in Education. John taught Industrial Arts at Broad Meadows School in Quincy. He worked for the Quincy Public Schools for 10 years before retiring in 1981. John was a master builder, he built many custom homes in Milton and through out the South Shore. John was also a boat builder and worked building boats at the Quincy Adams Yacht Yard. He was a member of the North Quincy Knights of Columbus and a member of the Cape and Islands Marine Corps Detachment. John was very involved in the North Quincy High School Athletic Boosters Club. He was an usher at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy for many years. John loved to spend his summers in Poland Springs, Maine with his wife and children. He was a member of the North Quincy Koch Club. Most of all John was a family man, spending time with his family was a very important part of his life. John was a WWII USMC, Veteran.
